Interior design concept for the Makerslab

The Makers Lab is conceived as a lively, creative space that equally supports ideation, hands-on craftsmanship, collaborative learning and compelling presentations. The four central zones (Post It, Make It, Pitch It and Learn It) are open, flexible and designed with a clear functional as well as atmospheric identity. All areas share an overarching studio character that invites participation, experimentation and further thinking.

The architectural shell, as throughout the building, is intentionally raw and industrial. Exposed concrete surfaces, or alternatively walls finished with cement-based plaster, form an authentic foundation. The ceilings remain open, with exposed conduits and technical elements subtly showcased. This industrial base is pleasantly balanced through the deliberate use of warm, natural materials such as oak, birch plywood and cozy textiles. The color palette is grounded in earthy, calm tones, complemented by bold, carefully placed accent colors that give each zone its own character and energy.

The flooring reflects the intended use: in the corridor surrounding the courtyard, an eco-friendly coffee-brown linoleum provides a calm guiding surface, while the workshop and learning zones feature robust oak block parquet that not only exudes warmth but also offers maximum durability. The furnishings are consistently modular and flexible. Mobile workbenches, rollable whiteboards, stackable chairs and multifunctional tables allow for quick reconfiguration as needed, whether for group work, a workshop or a presentation.

Each area has its own atmospheric profile. The “Post It” zone invites brainstorming with modular, flexible furniture and writable surfaces. The “Make It” space is clearly organized as a workshop with functional robustness, good lighting and an open shelving system. In the “Pitch It” area, the raw industrial aesthetic is combined with a stage-like setting. A seating staircase, modular sofas and flexible presentation technology provide the framework for exchange and performance. The “Learn It” zone offers a place to retreat for creative learning and documentation.

Overall, the Makers Lab conveys an atmosphere of making, thinking and sharing. It is raw and authentic in its shell, warm and inviting in its use, playful and bold in its colors. It is a space that inspires, energizes and connects.
